THE GUARDIAN

My love, I am ready to
give you all that I call mine.

Like a child who carefully
And often possessively
Guards her beloved toys,
Until she discovers
That all the fun lies within
sharing her favourite doll.

Oh, my love, for how long
Have the barking dogs of reason
Guarded this tender heart,
Only to realize
There's nothing to guard.

Empty and wide
Are its shores
Where mercy lies around
Like grains of sand
Glittering under the golden sun.

After all, the guardian himself
Doesn't need a guard.
